As the popularity of President Donald J. Trump is still in question in some circles and markedly divided among factions of the U.S. population, he did undertake his prime responsiibility as the chief representative of the citizens he is under oath to serve. While in Asia for a state visit to several countries, several college basketball teams, inclduing powerhouse, UCLA, were visiting China for a seasonal tip-off tournament.
While partaking in the visit, three UCLA basketball players – LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill were alleged to have attmepted to steal some classes from a high-end Louis Vuitton retial shop next to their hotel. Upon a cursory investigation and subsequent arrest, the Trump administration was made aware of this ‘international incident’ and his Chief-Of-Staff, General John Kelly reportedly informed President Trump who discussed the matter with Chinese President, Xi Jinping.
“President Xi has been terrific”, stated President Trump after having massaged the situation into near nothing. Trump reportedly referred to the UCLA players as knuckleheads – in description of their behavior to President Xi. Reportedly President Xi was fine with minimizing the incident and moving on to more pressing matters of state. The UCLA team stayed in China and played ball, while the three alleged theft suspects were allowed to first stay in their quarters at the hotel in China, then released to return to the United States where they face an indefinite suspension at UCLA – which is reported to last from half to potentially all of the basketball season.
What were the UCLA players thinking? Stealing (allegedly) some shades overseas in China, where anyone who knows anything, knows China don’t play dat. In fact, LiAngelo Ball’s older brother is a rookie for the Los Angeles Lakers who could buy the entire team some Louis Vuitton gear, if it is that serious. We may never know, Gen. Kelly reports that he did not ask the players about their guilt and was satisfied that the situation has been resolved.
