The EMP Museum in partnership with the Art Corps has announced that they will again offer the Hip-Hop Residency this year from July 25th through August 12th. This year’s residency will be guided by Seattle’s own Grammy Award winning artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
The Hip-Hop Artist Residency is looking for aspiring teen hip-hop artists who want to get paid to learn from and work alongside Macklemore & Ryan Lewis as well as other who’s who from Seattle’s vast hip-hop and creative arts community.
This Hip-Hop Artist Residency is designed exclusively for up and coming teen artists from the greater Seattle area who meet the King County low-income verification.
All instruction is fully funded which means there is no cost to the participants and the teens will actually receive a $500 stipend when they complete the residency.
Participants will also receive complimentary bus tokens so they will have transportation to and from the EMP and lunch will be provided for them daily.
Aiming to directly address the access barriers many underserved youth and families face when asked to choose between paying for an experiential learning opportunity beyond their means and getting a summer job this residency is an opportunity to provide up to 40 teen artists with a high-quality arts experience that supports them pursuing their artistic development and be compensated for their talent.
All participants will record an EP of original music at a professional studio, and put on a final performance inside of EMP Museum’s Sky Church.
