Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, One Entrepreneur At a Time.
We help Seattle’s young adults from low income backgrounds transform into entrepreneurs who advocate for themselves and build paths to financial independence.
By helping individuals break the cycle of poverty, we hope to lift their families, their children and grandchildren, and their entire community.
Community Carrot provides a comprehensive approach to helping our participants design and launch new small businesses as a pathway to breaking the cycle of poverty.
We serve underrepresented, latent entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 24. All participants come from Seattle’s low-income neighborhoods and live at or under the poverty level. If they fall into these categories, they are more at-risk than most of the population at large.
Words from Donnie a former graduate: “I’m a graduate of the Community Carrot program. Before starting the program, I did not believe I could be a CEO. Now, I’ve launched my business, Sherwood Goods, which promotes products made by Black and other minority owned businesses.I now have a successful business where I have accumulated 1,000 + followers on Instagram and all across different social media platforms.
Community Carrot taught me the basics about all aspects of owning a business. But importantly, they also gave me a community of supporting people who have mentored me, guided me to social service supports, and kept me on track. I am extremely grateful for the Community Carrot program and all of its staff.
I’m proud to serve on the Leadership team now as an Advisory Committee member. This organization does extremely important work. I don’t know of any program like it in the area. We need it to grow to offer more young people like me opportunities.”
