The Seattle Chapter of the national service organization, Jack and Jill of America, is\u00a0partnering with corporations and community groups locally to host Urban Games 2016 \u2013 a free\u00a0community health and fitness event filled with education and fun for the entire family.<\/p>\n

Now in its fourth year, Urban Games 2016 provides an entertaining afternoon designed to engage\u00a0young people ages 5-22 about their physical health and the health of their communities. Activities will\u00a0include indoor\/outdoor Olympic-style games, open swim, 3 on 3 basketball, fitness workshops, health\u00a0and dental screenings, athletic physicals, CPR training, cooking demonstrations, healthy treats, health\u00a0information and tips, performances by local artists and authors, appearances by celebrity athletes, free\u00a0helmets and fittings, face painting, bouncy house, and so much more.<\/p>\n

Public health statistics show fewer than one in four King County kids are getting the recommended\u00a0levels of physical activity. Loria Yeadon, who chairs the Seattle chapter of Jack and Jill\u2019s Foundation\u00a0Committee, said promoting good health through nutrition and exercise is important, especially for\u00a0young people who can use the guidance to develop healthy lifelong habits.<\/p>\n

The goals of Urban Games 2016 align with the Jack and Jill of America Foundation\u2019s strategy of\u00a0encouraging youth to lead and promote healthy lifestyles, including healthy nutrition and exercise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe environment we create each year is one that fosters character building and gives our children\u00a0and teens the tools and knowledge to take responsibility for their own health,\u201d says Yeadon.<\/p>\n

Yeadon says the Seattle Chapter of Jack and Jill is excited to provide such a meaningful event for the\u00a0entire community, but especially for the African American community. The intention is to build\u00a0awareness around the risks and prevention of childhood obesity as well as other healthcare risks\u00a0prevalent in the African American community.<\/p>\n

Urban Games partners include Jack and Jill of America, Seattle Children\u2019s Odessa Brown Clinic,\u00a0Seattle Parks and Recreation, Group Health, The Austin Foundation, The Trufant Foundation,\u00a0Swedish Medical Center, Walgreens, Starbucks Black Partner Network, Rite Aid RediClinic, Essex\u00a0Community Outreach and other local nonprofits and community organizations.<\/p>\n
